During 2002, EOD Solutions Ltd was approached to undertake a weapons destruction project in Senegal. This was to be based on previous weapons projects conducted by the company for the Department of State (DoS). The company Operations Director was deployed on an assessment visit and subsequently submitted a proposal which outlined the task and its aims which were accepted by the Department of State. All the necessary agreements with the Senegalese Government and the DoS were finalised and the company began operations in February 2003 and the task was completed by April of the same year. In all, 10000 weapons were destroyed using ex military personnel trained by the company in Oxy-Acetylene cutting and the safe handling of the weapons. A database was created to record serial numbers and weapon types and this was handed to the donors and the Senegalese Ministry of Defence for verification purposes. The main quantity of weapons were of French design and were replaced by newer more modern weapons.
All of the project equipment was purchased in country and on completion of the task was donated to the Logistics Depot in Dakar, for use in future demilitarisation projects. Items included the cutting equipment, personal safety equipment as well as grinding machines and hand tools. EOD Solutions Ltd would like to thank the Senegalese Ministry of Defence for their assistance especially Col. Dembele of the Logistics Depot and his staff for their diligence and support during the project. Thanks also go to the United States Embassy in Dakar for their support during this operation especially the Office of Defence Cooperation under Major Keith Lynch
